Regional Postal Administrators Sharpen Skills
From April 16th to 20th, 2012, managers from regional postal administrations will be undergoing direct mail and marketing training in Barbados in an effort to equip regional administrations to stimulate growth and counter the effects of electronic substitution on letter mail volumes.
While, this thrust is relatively new to the Caribbean, in keeping with the Direct Mail “Guide for Developing and: Least Developed Countries – in the Digital Age” the UPU is hosting a DMAB Workshop for regional postal administrations at Divi Southwinds Beach Resort, St. Lawrence Main Road, Christ Church.
More than twenty (20) participants from around the region will take part in the workshop from which it is expected they will increase their understanding of direct mail and direct marketing dynamics and tools. In addition, it is anticipated that there will be the development of an action plan applicable to each country and to the region as a whole.
The objectives of the workshop are to: promote the importance of direct mail and direct marketing and develop domestic and international markets in the Caribbean region; grow direct mail volumes and increase the participation of postal administrations in the direct mail market; promote value-added direct marketing postal products and services; position regional Post Offices as a direct marketing channel; share information to facilitate the growth of direct mail and direct marketing through partnerships between the Posts and other industry players.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Esworth Reid, who gave the feature address, spoke of the impact of technological innovations on traditional mail business and the need to continue to redefine postal organisations and continually transform product and service offerings to remain competitive in a the modern business environment.
The Postmaster General, Mr. Joel Brathwaite, in his welcome remarks also addressed the issue of remaining viable as an organization that has served the nation of Barbados for one hundred and sixty years (160). He noted also that for Posts around the world, direct mail has been proving to be one of the means of market expansion.
