Money Orders
Through the Barbados Postal Service, money orders can be purchased from any Post Office on the island and posted domestically, regionally or throughout Canada and the United States to anyone with access to a Post Office. It is a secure, cashable document and a safe, worry-free way to send money to a family member or children studying overseas.
The process entails completion of a form. Note however, that Money Orders from Barbados are cashed at Post Offices only; some banks overseas permit the deposit of money orders from the island.
Rates
Maximum amounts for which Money Orders may be issued are:
~ Local (Cashed at any Post Office in Barbados): BDS $500.00
~ Any country in the Commonwealth Caribbean: BDS $500.00
~ Canada: CAN $250.00
~ United States, U.S. Virgin Islands: US $250.00
Fees
In addition to the sum to be cashed by the recipient, the following fees apply to the purchase of a money order:
~ Local encashment: BDS $7.50
~ Money Orders cashed in the Commonwealth Caribbean, Canada, U.S.A., U.S. Virgin Islands: BDS$12.00.
In the event a Money Oder is lost or destroyed, the purchaser is allowed a refund after the passage of a period of no less than six months.
